Heretofore I have abstained from posting anything regarding any political party or specific politician, but I cannot stand mute in the face of what I perceive to be a clear and present danger to my country. I am referring to the fact that Donald Trump has been leading in the polls and has become the de facto Republican candidate for president, according to most of the media.
I am not a Republican, though I have voted Republican in several elections. But if Trump really is the leading Republican candidate, this country is in serious trouble. Here is a list of his qualifications:
--He has never been elected to anything.
--He has never previously run for any political office.
--He has never served his country in the military.
--He has never been known to volunteer for anything.
--He avoided the draft during the Viet Nam war.
--He inherited a huge fortune, which he increased.
--He increased it by "using the law" four times to increase his personal wealth, at the expense of his investors, by his own admission on national TV, during the first Republican debate.
--He provided jobs by growing his businesses, then laid off those same workers when it suited him.
--He has never used his considerable fortune to bless the lives of others, unless it also profited him.
--He twice married immigrants, again keeping his wealth out of the hands of other Americans.
--Unlike other extremely wealthy Americans, he has established no foundations, charitable funds, or other ways of "giving back" to the society that has supported him so lavishly.
--He has used his "bully pulpit" to bad-mouth Blacks for being Black, Latinos for being Latino, and women for being women.
--He has gratuitously used his wealth and prominence to gratuitously attack journalists for reporting his own statements correctly, and for asking him questions he doesn't like.
--He has publicly admitted that he has little knowledge of foreign affairs or other affairs of state, but claims he can learn such within a few hours after being elected.
--The Press loves him because he says such outrageous things. In the past, he has admitted that all this is "a show, and the show is Donald Trump." The press also loves him because he owns their network.
In short, he is an outrageous clown, bent only on his own aggrandizement. He admits it is deliberate. All this would be bad enough, were it not for the fact that he is not the only such person in recent history. I can't help but be reminded of another clown-like politician who loved saying outrageous things, playing on racial prejudices, and throwing his weight around, who got himself elected leader of his country by bullying media, without any other qualifications. His name was Adolf Hitler. To anyone who has studied the early history of the Nazi Party, the parallels are unmistakable.
